Walk through any furniture factory, glass supplier or electronics warehouse in Malaysia and you'll see rolls of wavy brown corrugated paper being wrapped around products. That material is single facer — one of the most cost-effective protective materials in packaging, and one most buyers don't know by name.

What exactly is single facer?

Corrugated board is normally a sandwich: a wavy fluted layer glued between two flat liners. Single facer (or single face corrugated) stops halfway — it's the fluted layer glued to just one liner. The result is a flexible, cushioned sheet that can wrap around curves, roll up for storage, and crumple into void fill.

It comes as rolls (continuous lengths, wrapped around products or cut on the line) and sheets (pre-cut for interleaving between stacked items).

Single facer vs bubble wrap

Single facerBubble wrap
CushioningGood crush protection, excellent surface protectionBetter for shock/drop protection of fragile items
Cost per m²Generally lowerHigher, especially anti-static grades
Recyclability100% paper — goes in the same stream as your cartonsPlastic film — separate stream, often landfilled
Surface finishBreathes; no trapped moisture marksCan trap moisture against lacquered surfaces
Best forFurniture, doors, frames, aluminium profiles, stacked panelsElectronics, glassware, items sensitive to drops
Simple rule: if the risk is scratches, rubbing or edge crush — use single facer. If the risk is a drop onto concrete — use bubble (or both: single facer outside, bubble at contact points).

Where it saves money

How to order it

Specify three things:

  1. Width — we produce rolls up to 1.2 m and can slit narrower widths to match your line
  2. Length or sheet size — continuous rolls, or sheets cut to your dimensions
  3. Grade — heavier liner papers for heavier products; tell us what you're wrapping and we'll match it

Because we corrugate single facer in-house at our Telok Panglima Garang factory, custom widths don't carry the long lead times you'd get from a trading house.
